It s a tried-and-true way to bring an extra spark of joy to kids this holiday season. It s also a good incentive to get the kiddos tucked in by convincing them that Rudolph s red nose is trained on your house and Santa is, in fact, on his way.

NORAD Santa Tracker Brings Some Holiday Normalcy to Even 70-Year-Olds During Pandemic On 12/24/20 at 6:00 AM EST In a year that s been defined by cancellations and other disappointments, children and adults alike can find a bit of holiday normalcy by carrying on the tradition of calling the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to find out when Santa is coming to town. Nine months into the pandemic, the coronavirus has affected every aspect of life closing businesses, separating families and friends, and moving kids into virtual classrooms. In its 65th year, NORAD s Santa Tracker had to make adjustments to its operations, as well limiting the number of people on the team dedicated to tracking Mr. Claus. But there was never any talk about canceling the long-standing tradition.

NORAD: Tracking Santa s annual journey

News 11 s Arlette Yousif finds out how an error created a worldwide tradition YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A young child was calling a number in a Colorado Springs newspaper. The number was supposed to be a call center that tells callers where Santa is at any given moment. However, the number listed actually reached the North American Aerospace Defense Command. Not only was it the wrong number, but it was also a direct line to Colonel Harry Shoup s red line. The calls continued from numerous children. Colonel Shoup realized a mistake had been made but wanted to bring the young callers cheer. He told that first child and all the others who called thereafter that he would ensure a safe journey for Santa Claus. He then put together a team to answer the children s calls.
