2021 is here and the year has already started violent in the city of Houston. FOX 26 s Maria Salazar has the latest.
HOUSTON - Despite the repeated warnings from city and county officials every year, the message against celebratory gunfire still will not get through to some.
On New Year s Eve, an 8-year-old boy became the victim of someone s recklessness.
Houston police report around 11:50 p.m., the boy was sleeping in his bed inside his apartment in Northwest Houston when a stray bullet struck him in the hand. Fortunately, he is expected to recover.

It happened in the 6400 block of Pinewood Trace Lane overnight.
Firefighters from Cy-Fair Fire Dept. arrived to find flames and smoke billowing from the garage of the home, which sustained heavy damage from the fire.
There was no word on a cause of the fire. The Harris County Fire Marshal s Office was investigating.
No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was assisting the family who lived at the home.
The children ranged from 2 to 18 years old.

Mom, 11 children displaced after house fire in northwest Harris County
HOUSTON - A family of 12 has been displaced after their northwest Harris County home caught fire overnight.
CyFair Fire Department reports that the fire broke out around 4 a.m. at the home in the 6400 block of Pinewood Trace Ln.
Emergency crews arrived to find flames coming from the garage, which spread to the house.
