Harris County COVID-19 threat level reduced to Yellow Alert (Harris County)
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo announced Friday that she will lower the county’s COVID-19 Threat Level Indicator from Level 2: Orange to Level 3: Yellow, the system’s second-lowest threat level.
“Level 3 signifies a moderate, but controlled level of COVID-19 in Harris County, meaning there has been a further demonstrated reduction in transmission of the virus and the local healthcare system is within capacity,” according to a release from the County Judge’s Office.
County officials urge unvaccinated residents to continue to wear masks and practice social distancing measures. According to a lawsuit provided by the attorney, a total of 117 plaintiffs are included, where they say their employer has forced them to participate in what is being described as “an experimental vaccine trial as a condition for continued employment.”
Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced on Wednesday that he is requesting the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Harris County to receive a direct allocation of $750 million for mitigation efforts.
Bush's announcement comes after an outcry from Houston and Harris County leaders who requested $1.3 billion in federal funds for Harvey relief but were left off a list of recipients the General Land Office released.
