Here s What We Know about the New Covid-19 Variant Cases in Houston
The Houston Health Department has confirmed three new cases.

We ve known for a while that new strains of Covid-19 were in Houston, and today we re learning more.Â
In a press conference this afternoon, Dr. David Persse, Houston s chief medical officer, announced there are three cases of Covid-19 variants in the Houston area, about a month after the CDC announced the first case of the UK variant in the Houston area. Since then we ve been working hard to identify more cases, said Persse.Â

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) The demand for the COVID-19 vaccine is growing every day, and there are new efforts to get more doses to the state. Many who qualify in the first phase of the distribution said they are having a hard time getting the vaccine.

In the ongoing confusion of the vaccine rollout in Texas, seniors and their families are still finding it near impossible to snag a dose of the coveted vaccines. There s not enough to go around, said Harry Still, who is on the hunt for a vaccine for his mom. It is very frustrating and I want to say it starts at the federal government and works its way down to our local community.

“I got a miracle.”
That’s how William Slay, a 92-year-old in Cypress, Texas, outside of Houston, describes his struggle to get a coronavirus vaccine, a quest that finally bore fruit last Tuesday.
It involved weeks of phone calls and emails to the governor’s office, to his county health department, to hospitals and pharmacies and doctors’ offices.
As he recalled, “In each case, the response you got from a live person was, ‘We don’t have any vaccine, and we don’t know when we will get our next shipment.’ And I would say, ‘Can you put my name on a waiting list?’ And they’d say, ‘We don’t have a waiting list,’ And I’d say, ‘How will I know when it’s available?’ And they’d say, ‘Well, you’ll just have to keep checking back.’”
