When a large national meat processing company was hacked and put out of commission it created a panic that meat supplies would dry up at grocery stores.
However there are a growing number of Cecil County farmers raising beef, chicken, lamb, goat and other livestock with a ready supply of meats ready to go into freezers.
One of those is
Christopher Price is a third generation farmer raising Angus beef.
âMy grandfather bought this farm in 1948 and started a beef operation,â Price said.
Now more than 70 years later Price said most of the business is in freezer beef ordered by customers and picked up at one of two processors; Haass in Dover or Sudlersville Meat Locker.

Harford County Public Library and Harford County Department of Community Services are hosting several virtual programs in support of Mental Health Awareness Month in May. Speakers include author and artist Sandra Magsamen, musician and mental health advocate Jordan Lally and author Kelly Jensen.
The programs support good mental health for all ages in the community. Each of the virtual programs is free of charge and open to the public, and registration is required. A valid email address is needed at registration. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email containing the Zoom link and a unique password to this event.
Winifred Wink Jonas, 96, of Brethren Village, Pennsylvania died peacefully on April 13, 2021. Born in Martinsville, Virginia she was the daughter of Charles Irving and Winifred Waverly (Atkinson) Smith. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, George Herbert ( Herb ) Jonas.
When she was a child, Wink s family moved from Martinsville to a small tobacco farm in North Carolina where she learned to work hard helping her family operate the farm during the Great Depression. After her graduation as valedictorian of her high school class in 1942, she attended Pfeiffer University, then Furman University, where she earned a bachelor s degree in science and mathematics in 1946.

BEL AIR, MD Former County Councilman and Bel Air Town Commissioner James V. Capt n Jim McMahan Jr. died April 14. The lifelong Bel Air resident, who was also a radio show host, was 82.
McMahan also known as Captain Jim was born, raised and educated in Bel Air.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1960 to 1978.
