OPINION: Letters to the editor

Osman explores all sides of an issue I am writing to express my strong support for the election of Franny Osman to the town of Acton Select Board. I have had the pleasure of working with Franny on a variety of local issues and have always been impressed with her desire to explore all sides of an issue so as to come to sensible and balanced solution to the issue at hand. As a person who believes strongly in the protection of our local open spaces, woodlands and farms, I particularly appreciate Franny’s support for open space preservation and environmental protection. Franny played a key role in the preservation of the Wright Hill property in West Acton and the Piper Lane property in South Acton. I also greatly appreciate Franny’s support for increasing both low- and moderate-income housing opportunities in Acton, and her recognition that land protection and fair housing are not mutually exclusive issues, but rather equally important components of a healthy community.

He was appointed professor emeritus at that time, but plans for a formal ceremony honoring his accomplishments, as well as those of several retirees, had to be put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “It is not hyperbole to state that we may not even be here right now if not for Jim Baucom,” current Landmark College President Dr. Peter Eden stated in a campus wide memo announcing Baucom’s appointment as professor emeritus last year. “The significant contributions Jim has made within the field of educational psychology and the life-changing effects it had upon students taking his

Student-Athletes Deferred Enrollment at Markedly Higher Rates than College Students at Large in 2020-21, Crimson Analysis Finds | Sports

More than 14 months have passed since a Harvard Athletics program last competed. With Ivy League presidents announcing the cancellation of fall 2020, winter 2020-2021, and spring 2021 sports seasons due to Covid-19, the Crimson s 42 varsity teams have largely trained and communicated away from campus during the last academic year. Given the absence of intercollegiate competition, Harvard s student-athletes faced important considerations when deciding whether or not to enroll in classes in 2020-2021. Other NCAA conferences may allow players that take classes but sit out athletic seasons to avoid counting that season towards their limited eligibility, thus preserving a season of athletic eligibility to use as a graduate student or fifth-year undergraduate. This process is known as “redshirting.”
