WASHINGTON Long before she burst into the public spotlight delivering her inauguration poem, Amanda Gorman got a standing ovation from fellow parishioners of St. Brigid Church in Los Angeles for reciting a poem she wrote about the parish.
Dr. ANNE C. LARKIN has been promoted to vice provost for educational affairs at University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, a newly created position including responsibility for creating an inclusive process to implement the educational goals of the school’s IMPACT 2025 Strategic Plan as well as oversight of crucial educational resources that support the school’s educational mission. Larkin was previously senior associate dean for educational affairs at UMass Medical School, and is vice chair and associate professor of surgery, specializing in breast and endocrine surgery.

WASHINGTON - In his first hours as president, President Joe Biden signed a series of executive actions that reversed his predecessor’s orders on immigration, climate change and handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Some of the executive options that I’m going to be signing today are going to help change the course of the COVID crisis and we’re going to combat climate change in a way that we haven’t done so far, Biden said from the Oval Office. And these are just all starting points.
David Fithian could hardly have faced a more challenging first semester starting out his term as president of Clark University.
Fithian, a 1987 Clark graduate, was chosen for the job at the Worcester school in January, when he spoke of the importance of listening to the community’s needs and facing bold ideas. Then the coronavirus pandemic hit. Later, the campus was faced with racial equality protests and made headlines when it broke ties with the Worcester Police Department.

For Fithian, the pandemic in particular forced him to quickly form collaborative relationships with presidents of other nearby colleges and form operational plans with a Clark administration he was only just starting to get to know.
