UMass Memorial Health, the largest healthcare provider in Central Massachusetts, on Friday confirmed it is starting its own health insurance division.
The insurance company called Central Mass Health LLC will be organized under the UMass Memorial Health Ventures umbrella, which is for all the non-hospital aspects of the UMass Memorial system. The establishment of Central Mass Health is in keeping with our long-term strategy to become a more integrated healthcare delivery network, UMass spokesman Anthony Berry said. Over time we have built a lot of assets - including a strong provider arm - but have felt that an important missing piece to achieving total integration was an insurance product.

Weymouth Food Pantry receives $2.2K in Community Spirit Grants

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation recently announced Weymouth Food Pantry was awarded $2,200 from the Foundation’s Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grant program.
Four employees of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Health Plans Inc. nominated the organization for the award. Funds will be used to purchase healthy, nutritious food for the Weymouth community.
To commemorate those Harvard Pilgrim members who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, Harvard Pilgrim and the Foundation created the Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grant program. This program allows each Harvard Pilgrim employee to award a $500 grant, completely funded by the foundation, to the local charity of his or her choice each calendar year.
