Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has told his countrymen and women to stop “fussing and whining” about the pandemic, following two consecutive days of record numbers of Covid-19 deaths.
The country, which already has the world’s second highest number of fatalities from the virus, is in the grip of a devastating second wave driven by a lethal pairing: the arrival of a highly infectious new variant and a disjointed approach to public health restrictions.
