Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful is hosting a Composting Class from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan 23 at the Copperas Cove Public Library, 501 S. Main St. This free class is limited to 20 people and requires pre-registration by going to https://bit.ly/3o6ds4k.
Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up to host a free trout fishing event this weekend at Carl Levin Park.
TPWD will be releasing trout the Carl Levin Park pond on Thursday, January 14, and the Trout Fishing Weekend will run through Sunday, January 17.
The are no divisions for this event, but participants are encouraged to send photos of whatever the catch to Harker Heights Parks & Rec Athletic Coordinator William Ross at wross@harkerheights.gov to be entered to win prizes.
Ross asks that participants practical physical distancing and wear masks when in close proximity to people who aren t members of their immediate household so that the event can be safe for everyone.
Teachers took advantage of time on a recent Friday to plan out lessons during the Killeen school districtâs second remote learning day.
While 2,800-plus teachers collaborated in grade-level groups and labored in their classrooms to build or record lessons, classroom aids, campus administrators and central office staff members guided activities for the small number of students on campus.
At Harker Heights Elementary School, small groups of students divided by grade level spread out in classrooms or rotated through library, cafeteria and gym space during the day.
One of the activities was writing letters to Santa.
The Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department, it turns out, has a connection to the jolly elf and collects letters for delivery and manages to answer the letters.
