Auckland Hearts to host Canterbury Magicians in domestic one-day cricket final

Hagen Hopkins/Getty Images Auckland Hearts captain Lauren Down made 75 on Sunday as her side beat the Canterbury Magicians to set up a rematch in next Sunday’s final. The Auckland Hearts will host the Canterbury Magicians in the final of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition after beating them on Sunday, despite finishing behind them on the ladder. With Hagley Oval hosting a Black Caps’ ODI against Bangladesh next Tuesday and the Canterbury men in action in the Plunket Shield in Rangiora, the Magicians have given up hosting rights for the decider, which will take place next Sunday at Eden Park Outer Oval, the same venue where the teams met twice this weekend.

New White Fern Brooke Halliday believes keeping things simple led to her success

Brooke Halliday (second from right) says the national anthem at Hagley Oval in Christchurch was when it hit home she was now a White Fern. It hit home for Brooke Halliday that she was now a White Fern as the national anthem played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch last month. The Northern Spirit captain then proceeded to hit the England bowlers better than most of her more-experienced team-mates, scoring 50 as they lost the first one-day international and 60 as they lost the second match in Dunedin. Only Amy Satterthwaite, who scored an unbeaten 119 as they won the third match, also in Dunedin, finished the series with more runs than Halliday, who also picked up a pair of wickets with the ball.

Rosemary Mair better for her Big Bash League stint as she eyes one-day final

It was an impressive stint for the seamer, who has just come to the end of her second year as an international cricketer, and she said she relished the experience. They ve got a lot of depth over there, and you can definitely tell the standard over there is a lot higher, and it s a lot more of a professional environment in general.” After doing her two weeks in managed isolation upon returning, Mair linked up with the Central Hinds for the T20 Super Smash, but only made four appearances before going down with a side strain. She returned in time to join the White Ferns for their T20 series against England that concluded last Sunday and was a strong performer with the ball – taking 2-22 off three overs in match two and 1-17 off four in match three – as they were swept 3-0.

Canterbury Magicians grab lead in Hallyburton Johnstone Shield

Kate Ebrahim has continued her excellent form for the Canterbury Magicians. The Hallyburton Johnstone Shield has a new frontrunner after the Canterbury Magicians won the first of two top-of-the-table clashes in Rangiora on Saturday. Fresh off winning the Super Smash Twenty20 title last weekend, the Magicians big 78-run win over the Central Hinds broke the deadlock at the top of the table as they also grabbed a bonus point, with Kate Ebrahim carrying her bat through the hosts innings with an unbeaten 102 off 150 balls. Just a week after her recall to the White Ferns T20 side, it was the veteran Ebrahim s fifth Domestic List A century and third for the Magicians (with her first two tons having been for opponents the Hinds) in a winning start for new Canterbury captain Gabby Sullivan.
