Tom Cruise has reportedly returned his three Golden Globe trophies as a protest against the lack of diversity among members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). HFPA leaders are currently under fire from a host of A-list stars and entertainment executives after it was revealed none of the group s 87 members are black. They have promised sweeping reforms, which will include adding 13 black journalists as members, but their critics are demanding more, with Scarlett Johansson calling for a boycott of the organisation, and NBC bosses dropping their broadcast of the HFPA s annual Golden Globes prizegiving next year.

NBC announced it would not broadcast the 2022 Golden Globe Awards in a statement Monday. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) which hosts the annual awards show has been under fire for what its critics condemn as a lack of diversity. We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform, NBC said in its statement. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.
