Time’s Up has slammed the proposed reforms set forth by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to remake the embattled organization, calling the ideas “sorely lacking and hardly transformational.”
“Sadly, the list of ‘reforms’ adopted yesterday, and endorsed by NBCUniversal and Dick Clark Productions, are sorely lacking and hardly transformational,” Time’s Up CEO Tina Tchen said in a statement. “Instead, these measures ensure that the current membership of the HFPA will remain in the majority and that the next Golden Globes will be decided with the same fundamental problems that have existed for years.”

Feedback: Will Golden Globes group keep up its charitable giving as it reforms? Ed Stockly
Let s hope they keep the good parts
Thank you for your excellent investigative reporting on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HPFA) [“Time s Ticking for the Golden Globes” by Stacy Perman, May 2]. It sounds like they have much work ahead of them.
I did some investigating myself. Since the HPFA is a nonprofit organization, their tax returns are public records.
To HPFA s credit I counted over 60 charities they made grants to, including Homeboy Industries, the Library Foundation, LGBT Center and Women Make Movies. The amounts ranged from $5,000 to $500,000.
Photo Credit: Sipa USA via APOn May 4, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), released a letter to its membership stating it had, “created a roadmap for transformational change in our organisation.” They are also organizers of the Golden Globes Awards.
The HFPA is suffering from months of complaints and criticism over the lack of diversity in its membership, and ethical conflicts about financial rewards.
The 86-member non-profit group currently has no Black members and promises to attract, “Black and other racially diverse journalists into our organization.”
The letter outlines the HFPA’s pledge to add a minimum of 20 new members in 2021, “with a specific focus on recruiting Black members,” and to expand its membership to over 130 over the next 18 months.
