Crowning glory

2823 A still from The Crown Don’t let the pandemic fool you famous words or a passing statement by Justin Sylvester, it could not have prevented the shadow of Covid-19 on the 78th Golden Globe awards. Nevertheless, the ceremony with two hosts from two coasts had the necessary zing and glamour. Never mind that the winners dressed to nines were only present through Zoom. The hybrid presentation expectedly led to some bloopers. But then, generous doses of hilarity and a few heart-warming moments made the ceremony glorious. Be it when Chadwick Boseman’s wife accepted the award which he won posthumously for ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, or the profound words of Chloé Zhao, only the second woman to have won the Best Director at the Golden Globes, picking up the honour for ‘Nomadland’. ‘Compassion is a breakdown of all barriers, your pain is my pain,’ she echoed on why and how cinema connects us all.

Hollywood Liberals Really Hate Everything

I just put myself through something I don’t recommend to anyone: I watched the Golden Globes. I don’t recommend it, especially if you’re prone to eye rolling or vomiting which have been known to be exacerbated by prolonged exposure to self-righteous Hollywood leftists, but I am a trained professional so, with Visine and a bucket at the ready, I was able to survive it to tell my tale. And the only takeaway from the night is the fact that liberals are awful people who hate themselves, each other, and the country. Right from the start it was clear this was going to be awful. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted together, because neither seems capable of doing anything on their own. You’d think having two hosts, both of whom are billed as the funniest women in the business, would make for some comedy. If you thought that, you would be wrong.
