NBC opts out of airing 2022 Golden Globes in light of ongoing HFPA reform controversy

On Monday (May 10), NBC announced that it will not air the 2022 Golden Globes ceremony on its network.
The news comes as The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) continues to come under fire from celebrities, Hollywood studios, and stakeholders for its diversity issues.
Outcry heated up just before the 2021 ceremony in February when the Los Angeles Times published an expose in which it detailed the Golden Globes’ history of diversity and representation issues. In addition to revealing that currently, the HFPA does not have a single Black member, the report also outlined some problematic financial choices.

U.S. television network NBC on Monday dropped its broadcast of the Golden Globes ceremony in 2022 after a Hollywood backlash over the ethics of the group that hands out the annual awards for film and television and its lack of diversity.
Tom Cruise joined a revolt led by streaming platforms and studios, returning the three Golden Globe statuettes he won for his roles in “Jerry Maguire,” “Magnolia” and “Born on the Fourth of July,” Variety and Deadline Hollywood reported.
