LAS CRUCES - A lawsuit filed last week alleges Hidalgo County and its detention center staff failed to properly care for an inmate who died by suicide. Adrian Placencia, 38, was found hanging in his cell at the Hidalgo County Detention Center on July 28, 2019. The Placencia family is seeking a jury trial to determine whether the county s employees are at fault. The suit claims the jail s guards and medical professionals failed to give Adrian Placencia proper mental health care or check in on him at sufficient intervals.
