Hillsdale man pleads out in Briner Oil arson

HILLSDALE A former employee of Briner Oil in Jonesville was before the judge Monday afternoon to plead no contest to a single count of third-degree arson.
Douglas Michael Jones, 50, entered the no contest plea instead of a guilty plea with concerns over civil liability.
Judge Sara Lisznyai read excerpts from a police report in the arson investigation which showed that on Sept. 10, 2020, authorities began investigating the fire as a possible arson at the request of the Jonesville Fire Department.
During the investigation, Briner Oil staff noticed a computer tower was missing from the establishment.
Hillsdale man set for exam in drug case

A Hillsdale man arrested earlier this month in a drug case is set to appear in the 2B District Court next Wednesday for a preliminary examination hearing.
Tyler Jefferson Gibbs, 22, was arrested Feb. 5 by the Hillsdale City Police Department on a felony warrant charging him with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine as a second offense.
Gibbs is also facing a probation violation for allegedly committing a new crime while on probation.
Gibbs’s examination hearing is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at which time the Hillsdale County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is charged with establishing probable cause a crime was committed and probable cause that Gibbs is the one who committed the crime.
