Updated 7:51 PM ET, Wed July 7, 2021 (CNN)The body of a dead woman was found in retention pond in the Tampa area Sunday, and authorities say her injuries appear consistent with an alligator attack.
Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to a retention pond in Valrico at around 8:40 p.m. Sunday where they found the body, according to a news release from the sheriff s office. Deputies then requested assistance from HCSO s Underwater Recovery Team who said alligators are known to frequent the retention pond.

STORM Elsa has made landfall and is battering Florida with 70mph winds as rescuers hunt for nine people missing in the water.
The storm has shown no signs of slowing down as rescue crews search for nine people who went missing in the water on Tuesday off the coast of Key West.

Several people were injured at a campground on a Navy base in southern Georgia and a person was killed by a falling tree in northern Florida as Tropical Storm Elsa trekked across land Wednesday. There are reports of multiple injuries and damage to multiple recreational vehicles in the base RV park, and also reports of damage to buildings and structures on the installation, a statement from officials at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay said. Many of the injured were transported to local medical facilities for treatment.
