TAMPA, FL It was a busy night for officers from Hillsborough County Code Enforcement, Tampa Neighborhood Enforcement and the Tampa Police Department.
They were on a mission that began two years ago when the Hillsborough County Commission formed the Commission on Human Trafficking to fight the crime that s given Tampa the reputation as one of the top cities in the country for sex slavery.
On a single night, just days before hordes of visitors were due to come to Tampa for Super Bowl LV, code enforcement and law enforcement officers fanned out, inspecting 36 adult entertainment businesses to ensure they are complying with the county s human trafficking ordinance.

A Florida couple are facing charges after they told detectives they had been handcuffing a young boy and locking him in a closet for around 16 hours a day as punishment since Christmas, authorities said. John Hernandez, 41, and Natasha Dabbs, 37, were taken into custody on Sunday.
Deputies had been called to a home in Tampa earlier in the day to investigate a report of a missing child, the Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office said in a news release. At the residence, deputies located the boy, who had reportedly been hiding in the home, and cleared the call.

BRANDON, Fla. - A Hillsborough County deputy was killed in a crash involving a suspect Monday evening in the Brandon area.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, a man named Travis Zachary Gabriel Garrett, 28, was outside, unclothed, and throwing things, including cookies. Neighbors called 911.
A deputy tried to talk to Garrett, who started hitting the deputy, the sheriff said. Another deputy tried to deploy his Taser twice, but it was ineffective.
Chronister said Garret got into his car and started to take off. The deputies on the scene got into their cruiser and try to call for backup.
