HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. â On Monday, Hillsborough County School District leaders announced a promising light at the end of the tunnel of ongoing financial issues.
Superintendent Addison Davis said the state is releasing $101M of CARES ACT 2 funding (ESSER funds) to the district, allowing them to maintain a balance of 3 percent and avoid a state takeover of the district s finances.
The Hillsborough County School District is the third-largest school system in the state and the eighth largest in the country. Yet, sweeping financial issues now have district leaders cutting teaching positions and considering closing under-enrolled schools. Hundreds of families are now left wondering if their kids will have the services they need. TAMPA, Fla. â Hillsborough County school board members will take part in a retreat Tuesday morning to discuss the superintendent s professional improvement plan.
This comes after board members heard from district administrators through an online survey, conducted by the Hillsborough Association Of School Administrators, that the majority of them disapproved of the job Superintendent Addison Davis has done so far.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. â The Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association is now pushing back against the most recent round of school district budget cuts, saying the district violated the contracts of dozens of teachers. They re now working to have them reinstated this fall.
This past Friday, the Hillsborough County School District sent out an email to more than a hundred instructors saying it s unlikely they will have a job next school year because of budget problems.
