HISD Board To Hold Regular Meeting Tonight The Hillsboro Independent School District (HISD) Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Monday, April 12, to discuss several agenda items, including the adoption of pre-kindergarten instructional materials. Board members will also discuss and possibly approve a contract for electricity and a food service contract renewal with Chartwells for 2021-22. The meeting will be held at the HISD Administration Office Board Room, at 121 East Franklin Street in Hillsboro.

Candidates Certified For HISD Board The Hillsboro Independent School District (HISD) Board of Trustees met in regular session Monday, March 8, and certified unopposed candidates for the May election. Running unopposed were Dr. Christopher Teague, Amanda Scarborough and Brooke Thompson. The board also discussed a Texas Education Agency (TEA) waiver for missed school days and approved a resolution regarding compensation for district employees during emergency school closures due to the winter storm. The TEA waiver addressed the four days missed due to Winter Storm Uri. HISD will submit the waiver to TEA to keep the district from having to make up missed days caused by the storm.

Schools Evaluating Mask Policies After Governor s Announcement Area school districts will have decisions to make following Governor Greg Abbott s order lifting the mask mandate in Texas last week. A day after Abbott s announcement, the Texas Education Agency released a statement saying that school boards will have the full authority to determine their local mask policy. Following the TEA s announcement, several area superintendents released statements saying that their districts were assessing how to move forward and would be making announcements in the coming days. Hillsboro Independent School District (HISD) says that it will continue requiring masks for now. HISD has had three staff members test positive in the past couple of weeks, but due to mask requirements, we have not had students become infected, a statement from the district read.
