LinkedIn is adding Stay-at-home Mam/Dad as an official job title By Emma Mullan Images via Getty LinkedIn has announced that it will now include stay-at-home mam and stay-at-home dad as official job titles on its networking site.
According to Tyla,
LinkedIn has made the decision to remove the old requirement that job titles need to be linked to an employer to allow for parents to accurately reflect their employment history.
Prior to this change from the professional networking site, feedback from parents revealed that they struggled to explain any large gaps on their CVs on LinkedIn, which could lead to difficulties when trying to re-enter the competitive jobs market.

Stay-at-home parents rejoice! LinkedIn is recognizing stay-at-home mom and stay-at-home dad as new job titles.
First reported by Fortune, LinkedIn is also changing its requirement that jobs need to be linked to a company or employer.
According to the report, the change comes after Fortune asked the social media platform for comment following a report on LinkedIn s alleged bias against women.
In the article, written by Heather Bolen a mom herself asked the social network to open up job titles that reflect the current work schedules for moms right now.
However, to many potential employers and organisations, trying to explain the fact that staying at home raising children for a few years has been an unpaid job, not a leisure activity, has, up until now, not been easy.
A gap in your employment history has been a tricky one to explain or use to your advantage for many parents trying to re-enter the job market after raising their families.
But not LinkedIn is hoping to help change this.
The professional social network company is adding stay-at-home mum and stay-at-home dad as actual job titles.
As well as this, they are also removing an old requirement that said job titles needed to be linked to an employer.

The path of returning to work after taking time off to have a baby is, unfairly and frustratingly, paved with obstacles.
The National Childbirth Trust, a leading charity in all things pregnancy and parenting, has published studies that highlight the issues affecting working mums (data is historically focused on mums rather than dads as primary carers of children, although happily things are changing now to reflect the need for accessible paternity leave, too).
