North-east MSP welcomes government investment in Aberdeen projects © Heather Fowlie / DCT Media A government commitment to provide funding for projects in the city has been welcomed. The Scottish Government’s transport and infrastructure minister Michael Matheson announced a £33 billion package of support for projects in education, healthcare and transport over the next five years. Ministers say the investment will support more than 45,000 jobs across Scotland. The package includes support for the Aberdeen City Region Deal and over £200 million for the Baird Hospital and Anchor Centre project in Aberdeen as well as Grampian elective care facilities. There will also be funding for the energy sector and rail improvements between the Granite City and the central belt.

Sign Up Campaigners have given up their dream of taking over an 18th century mill that featured in a TV adaption of Sunset Song – but remain hopeful someone else can resurrect the historic building. The category A-listed Benholm Mill, in the Mearns area of Aberdeenshire, closed as a visitor attraction in 2014 and is owned by the council. The event, which usually sees thousands of people get together for a parade of rainbows down Union street, will be held online for a second consecutive year due to the pandemic. However, the festival’s committee and Grampian’s LGBT+ charity Four Pillars are determined to bring the best experience to the local community through a range of activities, which can be done safely.

The event, which includes a parade down Union Street, will no longer go ahead as planned on May 29 due to Covid-19 restrictions. Instead, a series of online events will be held for the whole family to enjoy including quizzes, music, drag shows, competitions and more. Event manager Deejay Bullock said: “We have been following the Covid-19 developments very closely over the past 12 months while listening to advice from experts and the government.
