Jan 7, 2021 1:06 PM DeLand, FL - Today s (January 7) Volusia County Council agenda began with the swearing-in of newly-elected, Jeff Brower and Danny Robins, and re-elected, Billie Wheeler and Heather Post Council members. Newly-elected Chair Jeff Brower said it s an important moment for all of us. He said that these are tumultuous times. There s fear. There s suspicion. There s downright hatred for each other. But there s also opportunity. I want to just offer a few remarks, as a plea, to each one of you, because you truly are the government. We are your servants. The purpose of government is to protect your God-given rights. Brower also said that the most important task that faces the Council will be to bring people together, to fuel a sense of belonging and neighborliness, to encourage peace, prosperity, and liberty. DELAND – As CARES Acts funds run out this month with no guarantee of a second stimulus, Volusia County announced Tuesday that more than $30 million has gone to help residents and small business owners weather the COVID-19 pandemic.
And it’s not over yet – residents have until 5 p.m. Dec. 30 to apply for rental and mortgage assistance. Those who qualify can receive up to $1,500 per month for three months.

The news came on the last County Council meeting for outgoing chair Ed Kelley and councilmember Deb Denys, who were thanked for their years of service. Denys was elected to represent southeast Volusia County in 2013. Kelley was elected chair in 2016.
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES When Jeff Brower takes office next month, beach driving advocates will have one of their own in the top seat on the Volusia County Council.
Brower said he wants to not only restore beach driving to areas where it is prohibited today, but also prevent the loss of any other stretches of sand. It s been a horrible economic mistake, so yes, that is one of my priorities. I will bring it before the council, Brower said in an interview last week.
Brower made an appearance Saturday at a fundraiser at Crabby Joe s hosted by Sons of the Beach, a nonprofit whose leaders supported Brower during his campaign against current Councilwoman Deb Denys. Recently reelected councilmember Heather Post and member-elect Danny Robbins also attended the event.
