Coast Guard airlifts seriously injured hiker near Cascade Locks KATU Staff © Provided by KATU Portland A U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew airlifted a seriously injured hiker from a canyon near the small Columbia River Gorge town of Cascade Locks on Friday night. The helicopter crew flew the 43-year-old man to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland and was in stable condition on arrival. According to the Hood River County Sheriff s Office, two other hikers found the man at the base of a 50-foot cliff Friday near the Gorton Creek Trail near Wyeth. They called 911 at about 4 p.m. after they tried to help the man hike out on his own, but he was unable to do so. They reported to the 911 dispatcher the man was confused, injured and possibly hypothermic.
