Remember that time Tom Koch fed hyenas? KTRK
Forty-six states and 39 countries that s how many different places ABC13 anchor Tom Koch has been over his lifetime and career.
Tom is getting ready to retire after nearly 40 years, and as part of his sendoff, we re looking back at one of his favorite hobbies: Travel.
As a journalist, Tom s job has taken him to destinations including Ethiopia, Rome, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, just to name a few.
But when he s off the clock, Tom travels just as much. We traveled a lot around the United States, and went to a lot of the national parks Grand Canyon, Acadia National Park, the Tetons, Yellowstone. Loved Canada went up to Banff and then Jasper, said Tom s wife Brenda Koch, a former reporter herself.
This isn t the actual bottle, but you get the idea.

In November 2018, a Canadian teenager named Lucas MacDonald wrote his name and phone number on a note while he was on his dad’s tuna-fishing boat off of Prince Edward Island, about 120 miles north of Halifax, Nova Scotia. He tucked the message inside a bottle and tossed it into the water, then forgot about it and went about his life.
Two and a half years later, on May 7, Dianne Jurek was visiting Matagorda Beach a ninety-minute drive from her home in Fresno, south of Houston when, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, she found a long glass object poking out of the sand. She retrieved the bottle, unearthed MacDonald’s note, and decided to send him a text to let him know that his bottle had made the journey from the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the Gulf of Mexico a trip that would’ve meant traversing at least 2,800 miles on land.
Plus, weâre looking at some questionable best of lists.

What Do Tigers Dream of?
Obviously the craziest story of the week is 9-month-old India the tiger, who caused a stir on Motherâs Day by prowling the front lawn of a West Houston home.Â
When neighbors and an off-duty deputy (rightfully) freaked out, a man managed to get the big cat back inside, then loaded her into a white Jeep Cherokee, then sped away from police and got away, according to the Houston Police Department.

Educating potential customers about the hows, whats and whys can be an important selling tool for artists. For Ruben Salazar and Tristan Erickson, owners of Bug in The Box, soothing oneâs phobias and misconceptions is just as important.
The primary medium behind Bug in The Box, in addition to beautiful butterflies, includes spiders, bees, wasps, beetles and all manner of crawling and flying insects.
Salazar and Erickson make ethically sourced, preserved exotic butterflies and insects as art in shadow frames and boxes. The insects come from sanctuaries around the world after they have died naturally.
The duo started Bug in The Box seven years ago and work full-time from their studio in Sawyer Yards. Salazar is the creative behind the boxed Lepidopteras (butterflies and moths) and insects. Erickson helps with designing pieces, sales and social media.
