Hendersonville s Street Dances set for Monday nights in July, August; Lineups announced

From staff reports People young and old will soon make their way to the Visitor Center at 201 S. Main St. in downtown Hendersonville to experience mountain heritage bluegrass music, square dancing and clogging at the annual Street Dances. The free dances will be held Monday nights, July 12 and 26 and Aug. 9 and 23, from 7-9 p.m.  The roots of Appalachian music and dance run deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina and have been passed down for generations, the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority said in a news release.  The Street Dance started in 1918 when residents of Hendersonville took to the street to welcome home soldiers from World War I.

July 4th parade, fireworks & celebration to be held Saturday and Sunday in Hendersonville From staff reports The Independence Day Parade returns to Hendersonville this Saturday, followed by the county s annual fireworks display and celebration Sunday.  The parade kicks off Saturday, July 3 in downtown Hendersonville, put on by the Hendersonville Merchants & Business Association.  Floats, cars, tractors and more will make their way down Main Street beginning at 10:30 a.m. Proceeds from the parade s entry fees are going to the Henderson County Honor Guard to help purchase new uniforms.  On Sunday, July 4, the annual July Fourth Festival and Fireworks celebration will be held in Hendersonville from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Main Street between Second Avenue and Caswell Street, presented by Henderson County Tourism Development Authority and Henderson County Parks and Recreation.

Blue Ridge Craft Trails Month highlights three distinct trails throughout Henderson County that bring together studios and galleries filled with work by nationally renowned artists. This year’s event includes artist demonstrations, exhibit openings and other special events. “When people come to our area, they have things in mind that we are known for, and one of those is handmade, one-of-a-kind crafts,” says Michelle Owens, director of Henderson County Tourism. “Craft Trails Month is a way to highlight these wonderful artisans, so visitors are able to find what they’re looking for.”
