Public comment submission time extended for proposed The Cedars, medical office building projects
Anyone who would like to submit written comments about two proposed Hendersonville developments has more time to do so due to state law.
Public hearings were held Thursday during City Council s meeting regarding a hotel resort that includes the restoration of The Cedars hotel on Seventh Avenue West, and a medical office building on Fleming Street.
A state law allows the submission of written comments from the public at any time from when notice of public hearings is given to 24 hours after they re held when the hearings are held during remote meetings. The law prohibits public bodies from voting on the matters until 24 hours after the hearings.

Hendersonville City Council is confident, with only a couple of concerns and suggestions voiced, in moving forward with trading a portion of Berkeley Mills Park to Henderson County Public Schools in exchange for Edwards Park.
City Manager John Connet presented a conceptual plan to council at a meeting Wednesday that shows HCPS plans for its future portion of Berkeley Park, which would be nearly 26 acres, if the trade is approved.
Council and the School Board have to approve the trade.
HCPS wants to renovate the baseball field already in Berkeley Park and add a softball field as well as six tennis courts as an extension of the Hendersonville High campus.

With many North Carolina teachers still weeks, if not months, away from receiving COVID-19 vaccines, a few districts have already helped give shots to hundreds of staff members.
Jackson County Public Schools in Western North Carolina dismissed students early Jan. 22 so staff could get vaccinated. Since last week, public school employees in Rutherford County, Swain County and Union County received their first vaccine doses as well. In the Triad, Davie County Schools will make shots available to employees on Wednesday.
Proposed changes to Berkeley Mills, Edwards and Boyd parks in Hendersonville would lead to an improved baseball field; new softball field, tennis courts and fire station.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Henderson County is projecting a positive financial situation as it begins the process of formulating the next fiscal year s budget.
The Board of Commissioners met Wednesday morning to receive a report from County Manager Steve Wyatt, a financial forecast and an overview of budget priorities.
Commissioners heard updates and goals related to Henderson County Public Schools, Blue Ridge Community College and the Henderson County Department of Public Health, as well as renovations at the Henderson County Courthouse, the county jail and the VFW building.
The challenges from the pandemic have been unlike anything Wyatt has seen in his career, he said. During last year’s budget cycle, commissioners made decisions “conservatively and cautiously” that have put them in a comfortable financial position.
