RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The rush is on to get about 420,000 kids in Virginia inoculated. Those between the ages of 12 and 15 now eligible for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
“One way to get back to normal is herd immunity and we do that by getting vaccinated. this helps our kids get back into summer camps, get back into schools in person,” said Dr. Tiffany Kimbrough, Children’s Hospital of Richmond.

The Richmond and Henrico Health Districts are expanding eligibility for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12 through 15. This FDA and the CDC approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine on children 12 and older earlier this week.
In Richmond and Henrico, that’s about 26,000 kids now eligible to get vaccinated.
Some children will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from their family pediatrician, if their office has necessary vaccine storage equipment and staffing capacity. Children are also now eligible to receive the vaccine at pharmacies such as CVS and Walgreens, so long as they offer the Pfizer shot.

Thursday marked the first full day kids 12 to 15 could get the Pfizer vaccine after federal and state officials OK d its expansion late Wednesday.

RICHMOND, Va. Thursday morning was a day 13-year-old Madeleine Rose has been waiting for as she got her first of two shots of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine. I wanted to get it done as soon as possible, Madeleine explained.
The teen, who did not want to be interviewed on camera, said she felt physically fine after the jab.

RICHMOND, Va. On Friday, Pfizer became the first COVID-19 vaccine producer to request full FDA approval. Virginia s Vaccination Coordinator Dr. Danny Avula anticipated that approval would have several implications, including the possibility of more vaccination mandates across the country.
The Pfizer vaccine, along with Moderna and Johnson and Johnson, were currently operating under Emergency Use Authorization due to the pandemic. This is just the final formal step that Pfizer should take, said Dr. Melissa Viray, Deputy Director for the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts. We want this vaccine to be around, even when there isn t a public health emergency.
