The Community Security Trust recorded the third highest annual tally of anti-Semitic abuse despite lockdown Anti-Semitic abuse recorded by a Jewish community charity fell last year but the number of incidents remained its third highest annual total. The Community Security Trust (CST) says it recorded 1,668 anti-Semitic incidents in the UK in 2020, down from 1,813 in 2019, but still the third highest total it has ever recorded. Out of the 1,668, 20 were in Elstree & Borehamwood, and 941 in Greater London, with more in Barnet than any other London borough. A senior Rabbi says the national figures are alarming but added Hertsmere, home to one of the largest Jewish populations in the country, is a wonderful place to be Jewish and thanked the authorities and volunteers helping to keep the community safe.
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was attacked and left for dead in the street.
The victim, 31, was found in a critical condition on Friday night by officers who had been called to Stevenage, Hertfordshire, out of fear for his welfare .
The man was given emergency treatment by paramedics before being rushed to Lister Hospital - but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The murder victim has not yet been positively identified and named by police
A spokesman for Hertfordshire Police said an investigation has been launched by detectives from the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Major Crime Team.
