The new leader of Hertfordshire County Council has made it clear that he will not be pushing for local government reform in Hertfordshire.
Hertfordshire currently operates on a two-tier system of local government – with 10 district and borough councils and one county council.
But there have been suggestions that replacing them all with a single ‘unitary’ council could save up to £142million a year.

More and more people are being forced to rely on virtual links for business and leisure - and access to faster broadband connections has never been more important. But at a meeting of the Hertfordshire Growth Board on March 30, chief executive of the Local Enterprise Partnership, Neil Hayes, revealed that availability of faster fibre to the premises broadband (FTTP) in the county was relatively poor.
