PHOTOS: Trussville PD participates in Active Killer Training at Hewitt-Trussville High School

From The Tribune staff reports TRUSSVILLE Members of the Trussville Police Department gathered at Hewitt-Trussville High School on Thursday, July 22, for what is now called “Active Killer Training.” Traditionally known as “Active Shooter Training,” the focus on the preparation technique has now changed to consider all types of killings. “We’re trying to get away from using ‘active shooter’ because that implies that they have a gun, when in fact, they can kill somebody with all kinds of weapons, other than a gun,” said Chief Eric Rush. Trussville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill said she is pleased with the partnership the school system has with the city in order to ensure the safety of all students.

Trussville Council honors Girl Scout for efforts against distracted driving

By Erica Thomas, managing editor TRUSSVILLE July 13, 2021, is Alex Rudick Day. The Trussville City Council made the proclamation during its regular meeting on Tuesday. National Gold Star Girl Scout Alex Rudick was honored during July 13, 2021, Trussville City Council meeting. Rudick was honored for her efforts in gaining a National Gold Award for her project as a Girl Scout. Alex Rudick is an ambassador for Girl Scout Troup 872. For her Gold Award project, Rudick was inspired by her cousin, Jessica Butler, of Moody, who was killed in a crash in 2017. Rudick has made videos, created a website, talked with lawmakers about creating a hands-free law for the state of Alabama and consulted with the CEO of StopDistractions.org. Her videos have also been made available to Driver’s Education instructors statewide.
