Best matches of the year 2020 (AEW edition) By Richie DiMaso on Jan 3, 2021, 11:15pm EST 8
AEW
2020 is finally behind us! As at the end of every year there s been a lot of introspective surrounding what were the best matches of the last 12 months. As shown in Geno s article, WWE.com have announced the company s top 25 matches, so I thought I d do the same for AEW.
These matches have been selected by looking at ratings provided by Cagematch and Grappl. Using votes casts via these platforms I ve put together a list of the highest rated matches from the Jacksonville based promotion To qualify, a match needs to have at least fifty votes across both platforms. In the event of a tie, the number of votes cast determines the higher position.

I didn’t want to force a column out; I didn’t want to garner likes and adulation, and although I know that when tragedy strikes, I have a pretty powerful voice; I just couldn’t do it. Larry popped up in my head as the tribute
Views From The Turnbuckle: The 10 Best Matches Of 2020

We all know 2020 was a strange year for pro wrestling; so when it came time to come up with a list of my ten best matches of 2020, I knew it was going to be different. The absence of crowds (or at least crowds that could authentically cheer) was going to have an impact on what this list was going to look like. Wrestling is so much better in front of lively crowds, and crowds often give matches that extra energy to go from being an entertaining event, to something truly special. Oftentimes throughout the year I found myself watching great matches, but at the end being slightly disappointed because I knew that the match could be even better if it was in front of a live audience.
