City Council Celebrates Haitian Heritage In Boston

Reply May 7, 2021 Boston is home to one of the largest populations of Haitian immigrants in the United States and became the first City to celebrate May as Haitian Heritage Month in 1998. Subscribe This month-long celebration grew from the Haitian Flag Day on May 18, a nationally recognized day in Haiti, the U.S., and throughout the Diaspora. In years past, Haitian Flag Day was commemorated in Boston with a parade along Blue Hill Avenue through Dorchester and Mattapan. The Haitian community in Boston is incredibly active, with several community organizations based here, including Haitian Americans United, Association of Haitian Women in Boston, Haitian American Public Health Initiatives, Inc., the Haitian Nurses Association (HNA), the Boston Haitian Reporter, as well as over 100 small businesses.

Haitian New Yorkers Coalition Push for Advocacy of Independent App-Based Workers

The Haitian American Business Network, Haitian American Caucus and Haitian Americans United For Progress Wednesday announced that they have joined the New York Coalition for Independent Work to help elevate the voices and needs of New York’s independent app-based workers. “The Haitian American community, like many other communities of color, began to rely on app-based services when there were no resources available to get through the hardships of the pandemic. Now, more than ever, we have come to understand the value of independent work for vulnerable groups that are usually left in the dark when we face these kind of unprecedented crises,” said Jackson Rockingster, President and CEO of the Haitian American Business Network.
