NEW DELHI: It’s just two more days to India’s third phase of vaccination to begin – which will see those between 18 and 45 years inoculated – but a number of states are unsure if they could carry out the process. They find time running out and the burden of logistics and confusion over vaccine procurement have put a cloud over the inoculation drive.
It was only on Tuesday that the Maharashtra government requisitioned 12 crore vaccine doses from Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech for the next six months and sought information about a monthly supply from both companies.
While Maharashtra health secretary Pradeep Vyas’s letter addressed to the heads of both pharmas wanted to know the procurement price and the availability of vaccines before starting the next phase, state health minister Rajesh Tope said they had not received any response as yet to the letter from either company.
Maharashtra may get supply of Covishield only after May 20, says Tope
