Howden Joinery PLC posts much improved revenues UK thanks to increases in prices and volume growth

Quarterly sales were up compared to both 2020, when the first lockdown hit, and 2019 Howden Joinery PLC (LON:HWDN) posted much improved revenues in the UK thanks to increases in prices and volume growth. Revenue climbed 46% on a like-for-like basis in the 16 weeks to 17 April compared to the same period last year, which was impacted by the first COVID-19 lockdown. Compared to 2019, Howden Joinery UK increased revenue by 9%. In continental Europe, sales were up 106% compared to last year and by a fifth compared to 2019. The kitchen designer trades from 751 depots in the UK and 30 depots in continental Europe. Three new UK depots have been opened so far this year and seven older UK depots have been refurbished.

Cheltenham boosts sales at Paddy Power owner  Sales at Paddy Power Betfair owner Flutter jumped by almost a third during the first quarter as it was boosted by increased sports betting following a strong Cheltenham Festival. The company reported that total group revenues grew by 32pc to £1.48bn in the three months to March. It said this was buoyed by a 41pc jump in sports betting to £896m in the period. In the UK and Ireland, sports betting was boosted by the Cheltenham Festival, with the group estimating that Flutter brands accounted for 56pc of all activity related to the four-day horse racing event in March.
