Glenn Irwin heads into his second season with Honda Racing UK after a 2020 BSB campaign that saw him finish fourth and become a consistent championship challenger.
In pre-season testing ahead of next month’s season opener, Irwin has done little to dampen those expecting him to once again challenge and possibly win the title as he was fastest during the two-day Silverstone test, which also included a new lap record around the national layout.

Glenn Irwin finished the first of four British Superbike pre-season tests fastest as it was all change on day-two at Silverstone.
Day-one was dominated by McAMS Yamaha rider Jason O’Halloran who topped all four individual sessions, however, day-two saw three different manufacturers and consequently three different riders claim top spot.
Kyle Ryde continued his impressive form from the opening day for RICH Energy OMG Racing BMW, as he topped the first and fourth sessions, while Buildbase Suzuki’s Danny Kent was fastest at midday.

McAMS Yamaha rider Jason O’Halloran enjoys perfect start to BSB testing, as the Australian topped all four sessions on day-one at Silverstone.
Jason’ O’Halloran completed the opening day of 2021 British Superbike pre-season testing fastest for McAMS Yamaha, while new RICH Energy OMG Racing rider Kyle Ryde finished second, ahead of defending series champion Josh Brookes.
Title runner-up in 2020, O’Halloran made a statement of intent during day-one of testing at Silverstone on the National layout, as he topped all four individual sessions.
The Australian’s top time of 53.708s came under late pressure from Ryde who jumped up to second with less than a minute remaining.

This means that there will not only be a strong bond with the head office in Japan (cough, and HRC), but the whole squad will be part of a bigger project, that aims to further their riders’ careers.
As a part of this new agreement, Honda have signed Japanese ace Ryo Mizuno, alongside Glenn Irwin. He may not have ridden any of the UK circuits just yet, but Mizuno’s got a shed-load of experience, spending a load of time in the All-Japan series where he’s a double champ, alongside riding at the Suzuka 8 Hours.
