Deputies say they responded to the intersection of 5&20 and Mumby Rd. in the town of Hopewell for a reported vehicle fire a little after 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon arrival it was discovered that Francis Ryan, 64, of Hopewell was operating a Volkswagon Jetta, traveling eastbound, when a fire started in the engine compartment.
He was able to safely exit the vehicle and no injuries were reported. However, the Hopewell Fire Department responded to put out the blaze.
“It’s a big relief,” said the 75-year-old.
Hite was among citizens who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine from the Virginia State University powered mobile health clinic. The school announced its initiative to vaccine underserved communities within the Crater Region and parts of Chesterfield County this week, starting with Prince George County.
The bus headed to Petersburg and Hopewell Thursday with 200 units of the Janssen vaccine. Only forty-nine people were vaccinated at the American Inn in Petersburg. At around 3 p.m., 20 people were vaccinated in Hopewell.
The vaccines weren t solely allocated to residents of Hopewell Heights, vaccine workers encouraged residents to spread the word to their friends and family. Those vaccinated were given bags filled with hand sanitizer, masks, COVID-19 information and toiletries.

Several first responder units extinguished a Raritan Township house fire on Sunday afternoon.
Raritan Township Police responded to a fire at a residence on Ridgeview Court at approximately 2:03 p.m., police confirmed.
The call was initially dispatched as a grill on fire next to the residence, but likely due to yesterday’s heavy winds spread to the bushes and exterior of the residence and was upgraded to a Level 3 house fire, according to Raritan Township Captain Thomas Camporeale.

Witnesses allegedly saw the woman, identified as Leslie Jordan Kuykendall, of Prince George County, taking the child into the frigid water, according to the release.
