WASHINGTON (AP) â Famed actor Phylicia Rashad is returning to her alma mater as the new dean of the Howard University College of Fine Arts.

Phylicia Rashad, best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show, can now add university dean to her list of career accomplishments.
The Washington Post, the school announced Wednesday the multi-award winning actress and director will be dean of her alma mater Howard University’s College of Fine Arts.
Years before Rashad began her acting career, she was a theater acting major at Howard and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in fine arts in 1970.

An award-winning actress who played a doctor on a sitcom that spent five consecutive seasons as television s number-one rated show has been appointed as dean of Howard University s College of Fine Arts. Actress, Phylicia Rashad is now a Dean at the very university she graduated from in 1970, CNN reports.
Brimming with enthusiasm for her new role, Rashad issued a statement saying, It is a privilege to serve in this capacity and to work with the Howard University administration, faculty and students in reestablishing the College of Fine Arts.
The âCosby Showâ star previously served as a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member at Howard.Â
âI started teaching at the invitation of Al Freeman Jr., who was a former chair of the department of theater. He was a friend and we had also worked together in soap opera, and he was from the state of Texas as well,â she recalls. âAt the time that I was teaching this masterclass at Howard, I was taping âCosbyâ in New York. I would fly down every Friday after tape day to conduct what was supposed to be an hour-long class, which ended up sometimes being three hours because students wouldnât leave.â
