Ellicott City, Maryland – A former Maryland police chief is accused of setting a dozen fires in various counties over the last ten years. David M. Crawford, 69, was arrested Wednesday on numerous arson and attempted murder charges, the Prince George’s County Fire Department said. Crawford allegedly set vehicles, homes and residential garages on fire in a string of arsons from 2011 to 2020 according to NBC News.
Many of the fires happened early in the morning and involved a suspect wearing a sweatshirt with a hood drawn tightly around their face and carrying gallon jugs filled with gasoline. Following the last known fire in 2020, investigators discovered a connection with each victim and to Crawford.

Former Laurel Police Chief David Crawford was arrested Wednesday and is facing attempted murder charges in connection with multiple arson fires.
Crawford is being charged with 12 arson fires that took place from 2011 to 2020 involving multiple homes, vehicles and residential garages.
The Prince George’s County Police Department said each case was investigated separately, and Crawford is being charged in the jurisdiction respective to where the fire took place.
Police said multiple agencies including the Prince George’s County Arson Task Force and county police and fire departments from Howard, Prince George’s, Frederick and Montgomery arrested the 69-year-old at his Ellicott City home Wednesday.

Laurel, Md. A former Maryland police chief is accused of setting fires to multiple structures that belonged to his adversaries, authorities said.
Former Laurel Police Chief David Crawford, 69, was arrested Wednesday and is charged with over 50 felonies, including first-degree arson and first-degree attempted murder, in connection to a string of fires from 2011 to 2020 in Howard, Prince George’s, Frederick and Montgomery counties.
Twelve fires were set in the nine-year span to multiple homes, vehicles and residential garages, authorities said.
Investigators determined the fires were connected to people who had disagreements with Crawford, authorities said. Police said they found a target list of known victims and other evidence during a search of Crawford s Howard County home in January.
