The Arizona Supreme Court has agreed to determine the extent to which immunity is provided to state lawmakers.
The court will rule whether certain actions by former House Speaker J.D. Mesnard, were legitimate legislative activity. If it does, he is protected from a pending suit.
Former state Rep. Don Shooter wants to sue Mesnard, claiming he had edited an investigative report that led to Shooter’s 2018 expulsion.

Don Shooter addresses colleagues in early 2018, before they voted to oust him from the House over charges of sexual harassment.
Shooter claims Mesnard removed exculpatory evidence, which concluded Shooter was guilty of sexual harassment. Shooter’s lawyers also say Mesnard’s press release isn’t protected.
