HPU personnel recognized for service during 2020-2021

Members of Howard Payne University’s faculty and staff were recognized for their service during the 2020-2021 year at an annual personnel luncheon held on campus. Dr. Dennis Gibson, associate professor of chemistry and department chair, received the Outstanding Faculty Member Award. Hunter Sims, athletic director, received the Outstanding Staff Member Award. The outstanding faculty and staff awards are made possible by Underwood’s Cafeteria and Porter Insurance Agency, respectively.

HPU announces Diane Owens Excellence in Music Education Scholarship

Howard Payne University has announced the formation of the Diane Owens Excellence in Music Education Scholarship to honor the life and work of Diane Owens, director of the Pre-College Music Program at HPU. Diane Owens has served as the director of the Pre-College Music Program for 20 years and has taught pre-college music for a total of 27 years. In the scholarship description, Mrs. Owens is praised for her impact on children through her excellent teaching and genuine care she has for her students.

City of Brownwood Announces Leadership Appointments

Brownwood City Council members approved two recommended appointments to leadership positions during their regularly held Council meeting on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford presented her recommendations for appointing Marshal McIntosh as Deputy City Manager and Roland Soto as Parks and Recreation Director to the Council. “With the retirements of Tim Airheart and Tommy Bell, there has been a ripple effect in multiple departments,” Crawford explained to Council. “We are fortunate to have qualified individuals who are ready and able to step-up into higher positions.” Crawford recommended Marshal McIntosh be appointed to the newly created Deputy City Manager position. The Deputy City Manager position is designed to be a project-based position that takes on city-wide initiatives and works with all departments. McIntosh has been on the city team for seven years and most recently served as the Assistant Executive Director of the Brownwood Municipal Dev

Texas Baptist schools relax COVID protocols May 28, 2021 Share this article Texas Baptist universities recently relaxed their COVID-19 protocols in light of increased availability of vaccine, declining infection rates and in some cases updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control. On May 17, Baylor University announced fully vaccinated individuals no longer will be required to wear face coverings indoors or outdoors. Those who have not been vaccinated are still required to wear face coverings when indoors.
