SOUTHEASTERN N.C. (WECT) - All five counties in our viewing area are now offering vaccine appointments to anyone eligible under Groups 1, 2 and 3 per state guidelines.
Governor Roy Cooper announced the state would open for Group 3 on March 3, however, it was up to local providers to decide when to move forward.
Some counties chose to hold off in order to offer more appointment days to those in Groups 1 and 2. Some held clinic days specifically for school staff and childcare workers.
The shift online has forced once reluctant seniors to learn how to use technology, said Jim Fish, the president and CEO of Brunswick Senior Resources, Inc.
The organization has leaned on Zoom, Facebook Live and YouTube to provide programming during the pandemic. Still, Fish said he worries about the effects of the isolation and fear that many Brunswick County seniors have faced during the pandemic. We re constantly worried about isolation, depression, despair, he said. It s more than just not being able to have frequent interaction with other people. It s also this fear of this very unknown virus and what the true effects could be.
