Detailed description is "It's not a 'scene', It's a lifestyle, a way of life" .Whilst many of Leif Snake Sixx's contemporaries from both earlier and more recent times have fallen by the wayside, vanished into obscurity or merely failed to cut it the prodigious multi instrumentalist has overcome hosts of obstacles, setbacks and dramas to soldier on relentlessly in the quest for making music..
Given his extensive background in a variety of metal oriented genres one might then assume that a solo album from him may well be some sort of expedition into a heavy metal environment and though it could be a reasonable assumption to make it wouldn’t necessarily be a correct one..

Shortly after, he recorded with vocalist from German death metal legends MORGOTH, Marc Grewe and put out ‘Dethroned Emperor’ E.P.
which also has tracks with the likes of HENRY ROLLINS and a twisted, dark yet heavy tribute to Marilyn Manson‘s track from Anti-Christ Superstar – ‘Torniquet’ with Michele Madden from Tourettes and Meldrum fame on vocals..

After conversing with ex-Hellhammer/Celtic Frost original drummer Steve Priestly about playing on the ‘ITZ ALL ABOUT THE RIFF’ album (out December due to recording schedules of members on the album) and playing on 3 tracks (which he recorded in Zurich, Switzerland then sent the via the internet), I couldn’t help myself and asked if he would play ‘Dethroned Emperor‘ one last time on this recording after I heard how heavy Tom G.
Warrior has made it sound in TRYPTICON (slowed right down and tuned down to ‘B’ it is so much heavier) and promised Steve WE will make it even slower, chunkier and heavier, and he totally agreed..

One of the most covered metal tracks of all time by everyone from ANTHRAX to OBITUARY in which he originally played on the legendary Celtic Frost album ‘Morbid Tales’ helping solidify Celtic Frost as pioneers of a cross between black metal, punk and straight up chunky as hell, thanks to Tom G.

So I got to work here in my studio, tuned the axe down to ‘drop A’ slowed it down so the chunk sustains even more, sent Steve the dummy track and asked one of the only other guitarist in the world who could respect and understand the vision and power of what I was trying to achieve cause he himself has done the same, my good friend and pioneer himself of death metal with CHUCK SCHULDINER(R.I.P.), RIFFMASTER – RICK ROZZ in 1982 when they started a band called MANTAS…later changing the name and becoming DEATH and releasing the album that defines and is the template from which everyone goes off today – Death’s album ‘Leprosy’..
Rick loved the idea and not only agreed but was honored himself to be playing with a member from the original ‘Morbid Tales’ line-up.
So we had the guitar sound that could stand tall with Warrior and the skinsman himself….

Next was pretty obvious for me, first hearing DAMAGED cover it on there pioneering ‘Hate-Core’ debut album in 1992 ‘Do Not Spit’ is one of the most legendary metal albums to come out of the country and still stands up tall today, (James Ludbrook) was natural selection as was the man who, in the words of ex-Rose Tattoo bassist himself – Steve ‘Kingy’ King, has the most bottom end coming out of an amp hooked to 4 strings ever in Australia, Zoran Mrakic (Killrazer/Assaulter/Devine Electric) with whom I played with in Dark Order in the late 90′s.
And to top off this apocalyptic assault on your ears, Adam Agius, who use to sing the track when he was in ALCHEMIST many moons ago asked to sing it aswell…so I decided on the ‘twin vocal attack’ which just is the icing on the cake really….

Recorded in 3 months over 3 continents (Switzerland, Florida – U.S.A.
and Australia and all connected to the ‘RIFF’ as ONE on that track..

The original is the song that set the standard and this is not mean’t to be a straight up cover of it…The original drummer has always wanted to slow it down tune it down and make it with a little more of a ‘Sabbath’ vibe to it.
So DON’T compare, just enjoy this new version of a legendary song and take it for what it is..

here it is from me personally, like me or hate me you can’t deny what I HAVE done in my 23 year career so far…some good and some REALLY bad shit over the years, either way I am all or nothing with everything I do, but what do you expect when you get thrown straight in the front door after a chance meeting at 11 years of age with co-founder and original MORTAL SIN drummer and legend himself Wayne Campbell shredding like the pro’s being taught by a freak that now writes for Guitar World?.
Today I am still the youngest shredder in the Australian metal scene to support an international band let alone be in not one but two of the countries biggest metal bands at the time…..
I learned the axe from Greg Morreli( R.I.P.) ex-NAZXUL and GRUNGEON, and complete freak on the axe, Chuk Singh (who works for Guitar World magazine now) when 10, I was 12-13 and in my first band which some of you may have heard of called AVRIGUS.
Simon Gruer (CRUCIFORM) was on rhythm and vox, I was on lead axe (as always) can’t remember who was bass but the infamous Wayne Campbell (MORTAL SIN/GRUNGEON/WHITE TRASH) was on drums…that gig…my first ever was amazing, Greg Morelli (R.I.P.), Red (Frozen Doberman) Alex Hardy (Mortal Sin) and a few other ’Trueeschooler’ names who allude me atm were there but i remember looking at Wayne on drums and feeling like I was in front of 10,000 people…The ULTIMATE drug…and I should know, I have done them all..
When i started my own band TOTAL ABUSE in ’92 I started regularly hanging out with Greg and Campbell, going green and white from their weed (insane hash actually back then) and learning everything I could, Greg was like an encyclopedia to me, taught me so much about the scene (as well as Campbell’s invaluable lessons about the muso life and time in this country’s biggest band in heavy metal history – MORTAL SIN).
I remember being no more that 14-15 years old and Greg Morelli would drive over in his infamous black Bedford van and lend me his Roland GP 16 guitar effects unit for the weekend (as long as Grungeon weren’t rehearsing).
Then in 94 I joined AFTERMATH.
supported CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE, PUNGENT STENCH, CARCASS, midway through my stint with AFTERMATH joined DESTRIER the most brutal tech/death metal band from Australia to come out of the 90′s(As stated in HOT METAL magazine), only Damaged, Sulkus and Blood Duster came close back then, and we supported DEICIDE.
At this point I was hanging with Steve Hughes a bit, after having scen me in DESTRIER at shows like the DEICIDE support etc.
and saw and knew the freak inside me better than i did at that point…I was too wound up in it all on everything I could get my hands on from here to Peru…I think I snorted the other half of that country that Steve Tyler couldn’t (He mentions this in the film ‘Decline of Western Civilisation part 2 – The Metal Years) (I was still unfamiliar withSLAUGHTER LORDat this point, being so young, I mainly knew him as the drummer in MORTAL SIN after Campbell and his current band at the time PRESTO with legend shredder and SLAUGHTER LORD co founder with Steve, Mick Burke..
By this point I had definitely started losing it…I was in 2 of the biggest bands in the underground metal scene only 18 years old getting all this love, admiration and attention that would get to any kid the just out of school from the backstreets of Bankstown(which was extremely gang orientated back then with all the middle easterner’s moving there and the new rap craze that was coming through thanks to groups especially like the N.W.A.

I use to play during the week, go to school the next day, get cornered in the toilets by 6-7 of them and they would proceed to pin me down and beat the shit out of me then turn me upside down, steal what money I had and stick my head down the toilet and push the flush button.
To them I was a ‘satan worshipping skip’(skip was slang for Aussie)..
So with my head in a spin and an ego that inflated i couldn’t see what was real and what was shit, I started using drugs, and I mean a lot more than just pot.
I was already smoking that like a chimney.
Speed, Coke….even Heroin(back then we had Cabramatta – smack central…The gear was that good even ‘certain international rockstars’ would be throwing up onstage…Those who saw a certain band’s guitarist doing this in the mid 90′s supporting another massive band would remember this.) But the problem is with me, I don’t do ANYTHING by halves or ‘half-assed’ Its all or nothing…otherwise its not true to it.
So both my band’s at the time had simply had enough and I was kicked out of both bands in just under 3 weeks, and just like that I was NOTHING again…just a washed up drug-riddled alcoholic 18 year old musician who thought it was all over and hated the world…But ‘you get as good as you give’…that is VERY true…MOST of the time.
I had given my heart and soul to the RIFF but was letting it be run by my ego.
Iwasnt giving anything to it now, I was just ‘TAKING’ everything I could get out of it…So karma come up to me and said “Hello boy…it’s time to prick a hole in that big head of your’s” and boy did it deflate….but not enough at this point..

I settled down and did some soul searching as you do…my ego was still huge though I couldnt really tell, I was so use to it by now, Still, about 3-4 months later 2 mates who roadied for me in AFTERMATH and DESTRIER, Raul and Zoran Mrakic asked me to join their thrash band who were just about to record their first album and I Joined…oh how things change in the music buisness, it’s a shitload more fucked these days though with all these ’elitists’, brown-nosing and money involved…there was NOTHING but the love for the music and word of mouth was how you got known, NO SOCIAL MEDIA BULLSHIT…you had to be REAL FUCKING GOOD back then to pull a crowd…not spend days self promoting on fakebook (In which I do use aswell, but I am just stating the facts) DARK ORDER for a year when Steve Hughes asked me to play in NAZXUL in 96…he walked up onstage straight after I finished plying a gig with Dark Order at the Enfield Boularvaude and grabbed me and said ‘YOURE the guitarist we need in Nazxul“…late 96 I think it was….and the next week we moved in to the Bedford st Warehouse in Spewtown….and Nazxul was Lachlan Mitchel, Steve Hughes, Greg Morelli, Adrian (dunno last name) and little old me…That was the ORIGINAL LINE-UP created to play live..
I also had the honour of jamming with DIMEBAG DARRELL backstage at Ent.

in Sydney and ended up with him grabbing a poster and drawing 6 lines with Artline texter and asking me to tab out a spanish scale i showed him..

Was asked (because guitarist Tony specifically said it’s me or no-one to replace him cause he needed to leave the band) to join SULKUS but by that point I was burnt out, with a drug and alcohol habit almost as big as my ego, and kicked out of DARK ORDER after recording the debut album…(Raul then proceeded to wipe all my insane lead breaks off it, that hurt cause I worked hard on them…as I always have) so unfortunately and that never happened though I wish it did, awesome bands.
And I started learning keyboards/piano and mixing/producing industrial influenced by the likes of the worlds best of course FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY…(NOTHING half assed remember) And after ANOTHER chance meeting with a freak with industrial/dance music and interested in meshing filth guitar with filth industrial aswell, I learnt all the industrial shit in 97 (I am also naturally a huge Godflesh, Prodigy and Cubanate fan) from a guy i met with 11 keyboards connected to 1 slave keyboard into an atari st with cubase 2.1, a 16 track Yamaha automated mixer and a four track to record vox n guitars cause hard drive were tiny back then?then in 2001 started playing in the reformed Sydney death metal band SUFFER learned how to video edit like a pro from another freak, n together we made a DVD called FUCK THIS IM GOING TO THE ANNANDALE, which got 4 1/2 stars out of five in Rolling Stone, and started learning 3ds max and MAYA and so i could make anything visual possible fpr the underground music scene but realized I would have to dedicate my whole life to it so I stopped.
Then 2005 got caught up in an unhealthy relationship, back on certain things but was smart enough to get out of that situation and keep on the straight and narrow, that was biggest mistake of life that relationship.
After that crap I realized its time to dedicate my entire life to the ‘RIFF’.…After recently finishing playing in THE OFFICIAL ALICE COOPER SHOW and what became the most full-on and dangerously controversial band ever in the country JESUS CHRIST – THE AUSTRALIAN G.G.

Now I decided 2 years ago to be a ‘solo’ metal artist instead of in a band like everyone else (not that their is anything wrong with it, just thinking outside the box) under the name ‘SNAKE SIXX‘ and take it beyond artists like SLASH and JOE SATRIANI and make it similar in a way to the way DEATH and CHUCK SCHULDINER(R.I.P.) worked with different people on every album, thus making every album original, different yet still have Chuck’s “heart and soul” all over it.
So after spending 21 months recording and 4 months mixing it myself this has become the biggest underground music project ever undertaken and COMPLETED and after nearly dying from working too much on it all and drinking (I don’t do drugs anymore – haven’t since 2005) in Australian music history with my good friend Christian Laura at MACHINE MEN STUDIO’S and all the amazing legends who I had the honour to record with and am damn proud of it as anyone in their right mind whould be.
I might be 36 but voices in my head keep directing me to do right by the RIFF, keep thinking outside the box, I work for Aussie metal 24/7 and push the envolope further than anyone has hear in a long time, all for the love of it…show these poor blind kids bout things that haven’t experienced or seen, cause they have so much shit shoved up thier ass via the media they get brainwashed etc….BUT THERE COME’S A POINT WHEN NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAY’S, THE MUSIC SPEAKS THAT LOUD AND OBNOXIOUSLY THAT EVERYONE IS – WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT, FORCED TO STAND UP AND TAKE NOTICE…I do this all to INSPIRE NOT INTIMIDATE…That’ s not what music is about at all…and that’s why I have 33 of the worlds most amazing muso’s on this album with me…I LEARN’T the hard way from all my mistakes in life and NEVER give up when most would have by now…or put themselves 6 feet under, EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES, IT’S WHAT YOU LEARN FROM THEM THAT COUNTS.
I worked extremely hard to EARN MY RESPECT back from the people who mean the most to me like my family and all the boy’s on the ‘RIFF’ album and have gained respect from some of the most important and influential faces in metal history like RICK ROZZ and STEVE PRIESTLY and AGAIN took it all the way and recorded with BOTH of them on the same track and introduced them to each other through the RIFF.
Of course aswell as the one and only legendary glam pioneers from Hollywood themselves the might L.A.
GUNS…Where myself and a couple of friends rescued and helped them salvage as much as they could from the dickhead tryhard excuse for a promoter…who wanted to ‘fire’ me on the first night to scare the crew and look like ‘mr.
tough guy’…well guess what…you became my.
Smalldick with no guts to see any of it and got yourself kicked off the tour on the first night…(click here for some photo’s)cause all of us saw through you like glass and the ‘truescool’ rescued what you completely fucked up, made new friends and now Scotty Griffin is playing bass on the ‘RIFF’ album with me aswell…So as I said earlier ‘You get as good as you give’ and I give music my all..

Recording thier ONLY demo ‘Taste The Blood’ when the 4 of them were only 16-17 in ’86 with the one and only Aussie metal Knight himself ex-ROSE TATTOO’s STEVE ‘KINGY’ KING from Sydney’s “loudest” band STAND ALONE sounding raw and dirty as fukk(no one here really knew how to produce a big metal sound back then, it was all new and VERY rare for a band to even have the $ to record a demo) and the most heavily respected band (especially overseas and considered pioneers in the realm of bands such as Death and even Slayer…who released ‘Reign in Blood’ the same year but were a lot older.) And have big overseas bands covering their songs like AT THE GATES covering ‘Legion’ and recently San Francisco band Ares Kingdom having the balls to give their most well known and respected track ‘Die By Power‘ And speak about them like gods of RIFF ARMAGEDDON…and rightfully so…Even Steve Hughes and I decided against re-doing it last year…there are some things that are best left alone…even though I was asked to be in the band by ‘Slaughter Lord’ Mick Burke himself…which is as big an honour as working with Rick Rozz and Steve Priestly…after all, SLAUGHTER LORD ARE AUSSIE TRASH/DEATH METAL PIONEERS THEMSELVES….

I am lucky I got a warning and a second chance at life…Jeff Hannemen(R.I.P.) didn’t.
The ‘boys’ know what’s going on…and, as all the legends on the album, are all proud to be part of it and look forward to watching what happens from this album that they all pulled together with me in the the name of nothing but the RIFF to create, So get inspired, get into it, enjoy all the fruits from the thousands of hours I have put into it all…This is a piece of history that can and will never be repeated, I have no idea even how its all going to work out but we did it and it is extremely special and will be around after we are long gone….Everyone on ‘ITZ ALL ABOUT THE RIFF’ has a special connection now, which is something I know I had no idea would happen and I think it’s safe to say a lot of the boy’s who played on this didn’t know what the fuck to expect on it.
But the message is clear NEVER GIVE UP, WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN JUST KEEP GOING NO MATTER WHAT, JUST PICK YOURSELF UP AND KEEP GOING AND KEEP POSITIVE AND FUCK THE BULLSHIT, JUST KEEP IT REAL AND YOU CAN’T LOSE..
