La Quinta Compañía de Bomberos de Cunaco fue fundada el 29 de abril de 1974, en la actualidad ésta compañía cuenta con 28 voluntarios, su Director es don Víctor Contreras Bustamante y su Capitán el señor Luis Flores Orellana, .
Actualmente esta compañía se desempeña en dos áreas: Agua y Rescate Vehicular; la cual cuenta con 18 operadores de rescate vehicular, además tiene voluntarios capacitados en procedimientos RCP, Rescate urbano, materiales peligrosos, agua, fuego, entrada forzada, ventilación y métodos de extinción, para llegar a ser bomberos que cumplan la nueva malla curricular “ Bomberos profesionales”..

Bomberos de Cunaco actualmente cuenta con Tres Móviles: uno para el ataque rápido de incendios marca Renault Camiva modelo Midlum 240 año 2008, capacidad de cinco mil litros de agua con tecnología de punta, el otro móvil marca International modelo DT466E AÑO 2000, capacitado en su totalidad para rescate vehicular, y el tercer móvil marca KIA modelo Sportage Año 2005, esta capacitado para el transporte de los voluntarios, y arrastre de equipo CASCADA..
