Detailed description is Fight for Fido has been created for Dog Owners to come together to get the laws changed for the Animal Management Cats & Dogs Act 2008! I have created this page, as I believe the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 is in need of review.
Having recently had an incident occur with our AWL dog of 6 months, and in return our dog being declared Menacing with no prior history.
I found the rules to be very unfair to the dog owner and the dog.
I certainly don't condone the incidents and each situation is different but I do believe in giving the dog and the owner a fair chance to rectify and get some training to assist them rather then locking them up and throwing away the key, (or worse being put down), I just really don't understand how that is going to help the dog in anyway.

I am really excited about the site, which will have allot to offer relating to Pets & Animals but one of the features will be 'Find a BFF' for your pet where you can register (free) and put a description about your Pet and what kind of BFF they need.
Some pets are misunderstood and need an understanding playmate and owner.

Currently (in short form) the law is if your dog is declared dangerous or menacing that is it for the life of the dog.
Your registration fees quadruple and there is no review or training ordered.
There is also no warning for first time incidents.
Council don’t assess the dog although have the power to declare the dog.

I would like to see the laws changed, to include a warning period if first offence and the owner is generally concerned and willing to take the steps to the best of their ability that it doesn’t happen again.
Have qualified Dog Trainers and Behavioural specialist have to assess the dog not an unqualified council worker who may or may not hate dogs or know nothing about them.
Also a probation period of 1 or 2 years for example and ordered to give the dog training rather then quadrupling the registration fees which I think would be money better spent.
