After teaching myself for only 3 months I entered and won the Floriade Photography Competition which fueled my desire to learn the craft even more.
I came from an arts background (my father is respected oil and pastel painter Peter Kopilow) but never had any talent for painting and it was only through discovering photography that I found an outlet to express myself creatively..

In 2003 I launched Fusion Photography, at first to sell my growing library of nature & abstract images through local markets & gift stores.
Then I was accepted by a new stock agency in the United States, Acclaim Images, and for the next year sold many images that now appear on everything from greeting cards & books to billboards in New York..

In 2004 I was asked to shoot a friends wedding as a back-up photographer and this is where I discovered my real passion and when my photography career really blossomed.
I took the photos of this one bride to a wedding fair and was soon booked out for the wedding season and from then on was in high demand, shooting 60 weddings a year..

In 2007, after realizing that so many wedding a year was going to lead to burn out I decided to evolve my style to concentrate more on the luxury end of the market so I could reduce the number of commissions I took.
Since then Fusion has established a proud reputation as one of the finest boutique wedding studios in Australia.
Other wedding vendors began to appreciate the high quality of imagery and service I was providing and I was soon invited to be the preferred photographer of many leading wedding venues such at the Hyatt Hotel, The Boat House, Lake Crackenback Resort, Bannisters and many others..

Around this time I also joined the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) and I'm currently an Associate member and serving as President of the ACT Division.
I am also a licentiate member of the WIPM (World Institute of Photographic Masters) and an accredited member of WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International).
Since joining the AIPP I have continued to be active in competition and have won numerous national and international print awards, some recent ones listed below.
In the last few years Fusion has also established a reputation in the international market and I now receive many overseas commissions and shoot destination weddings, as well as shooting weddings Australia-wide.
This year will see us travelling to Bali, Tuscany, Los Angeles & China..

In 2010 I was selected to be interviewed by Cosmo Bride China as representative of the cutting edge of Australian wedding photographers for a special feature they were running.
The same year I was also recognized for my macro work by Ricoh cameras and became a Ricoh Cameras Australia Ambassador..

Though weddings & portraits are my core business I still enjoy shooting nature and abstract work whenever I get the chance and combining my love of photography with my love for music.
I shoot musical theatre, supporting local theatre groups and jazz bands, and since 2008 have been the official photographer for the Canberra International Music Festival.
I also enjoy teaching photography and things have come full circle as I now run the Floriade photography workshops each year as well as teaching many private students..
