Detailed description is 沖縄県宜野湾市普天間にある東寺真言宗のお寺です。 縁起.

当山は1459年に尚泰久王の勅願により、住民の祈願所として建立されました。.

史実は定かではありませんが、当時は首里から中部方面の視察の際に、.
御休み処がこの普天間にあり、徐々に整備され、尚泰久王の勅願により開山になったと言われています。.

又、もう一つの口伝によれば、中城城主護佐丸公が勝連城主阿麻和利公に攻められ落城した際に、城の資材を当地に運び、護佐丸公の菩提を弔う為に当寺が建てられたとも言われています。.
.
創建以来、隣接する普天満宮と一緒に祀られていましたが、明治期の廃仏毀釈政策により、それぞれ分離して現在に至っています。.

沖縄戦の際に、堂宇はことごとく戦災により失いましたが、境内のフクギの木は３本だけが残りました。.
このフクギの木は戦前４本生えており、四脚門として参詣者を迎えていました。.
.
その後、ハワイや南米の県人会を中心に復興資金が届けられ、昭和二十八年に本堂と庫裡を再建しました。.
しかし、老朽化により平成九年に山内を一新し、現在の本堂と庫裏となりました。
