A história da arte moderna e contemporânea brasileira acontece há quatro décadas numa Galeria que merece se chamar Ipanema..
Desde o seu surgimento, há 52 anos, a Galeria de Arte Ipanema vem selando uma identidade própria no contexto da história da arte brasileira, ocupando assim um espaço de relevância fundamental para o despontar artístico no Brasil.

Fundada em 1965 por Luiz Sève, que sempre esteve e segue à sua frente, a Galeria também contou com o expressivo trabalho de Frederico Seve entre 1968 e 1998.
Seu primeiro endereço foi o Copacabana Palace, mas a partir de 1973 passou a ocupar imóvel da Rua Aníbal de Mendonça, em Ipanema, na quadra da praia, onde se encontra há quase 37 anos.
Sempre à frente do seu tempo, a Galeria Ipanema também percorreu outros pólos culturais, desenvolvendo trabalhos em São Paulo, onde se estabeleceu entre 1972 e 1980.
Uma das principais precursoras do movimento modernista, a Galeria Ipanema reúne um acervo de peso e representatividade com obras de artistas internacionalmente reconhecidos como: Volpi, Milton Dacosta, Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Sérgio Camargo, Cruz-Diez, Soto Mira Schendel,Vasarely, Di Cavalcanti, Portinari, Ivan Serpa, Guignard, Cícero Dias, Iberê Camargo, Antônio Bandeira, Pancetti, Tomie Ohtake, Waltércio Caldas, Frans Krajcberg entre outros..

A trajetória da Galeria Ipanema é pontuada pela realização de mostras de grande importância e significado, entre as quais se destacam especialmente as retrospectivas de Iberê Camargo (2006), com 46 obras do artista; a de Milton Dacosta (2005), composta por 86 das suas obras mais significativas; a de Helio Oiticica (2005); e, principalmente, de Alfredo Volpi (2003), com 70 obras expostas e aclamada como um marco entre as exposições modernistas.
A Galeria Ipanema conta na sua direção com Luciana Sève, filha de seu fundador, que vem somar para a continuidade de uma trajetória impressionante e marcante no cenário brasileiro e internacional de arte.
