South-andaman,

Andaman-and-nicobar-islands,India - 744104

Detailed description is The ultimate endurance challenge - Run all four Hong Kong long-distance trails (total 298km, 14.5k D+) within 60 hours..
7th edition: Sat, 17 - Mon, 19 Feb 2018 (first to third days of Chinese New Year).
The 7th edition of the annual HK4TUC will take place in the same format as the successful events in previous years..
.
- Total 298km distance and 14.5k D+ elevation, to be completed solo and self-supported within 60 hours.
- Sat, 17 Feb 2018 08:00 to Mon, 19 Feb 2018 20:00 (first to third days of Chinese New Year).
- This is a non-stop event; this is not a multi-stage event..
- Participants can take rest and sleep breaks at their own discretion during the Challenge but the timing does not pause..
- This is a running event; this is not a long distance hiking event..
- This is not a “let’s see how many km / trails you can manage in the given time” event.
This Challenge is about completing no less than all four trails..
- Trail sequence: Maclehose – Wilson – Hong Kong – Lantau trails.
- Individual trails to be run in reverse, i.e.
from trail finish to trail start..
- Event starts in Tuen Mun at Maclehose trail finish and ends in Mui Wo at the famous green postbox in front of the ferry terminal..
- The first trail, Maclehose, has a strict 18 hours cut-off time..
- The third trail,Hong Kong trail, has a strict 60 hours cut-off time..
- Participants will be recognised as Finisher if they complete the Challenge within the 60 hours cut-off time and comply with the rules..
- Participants failing to finish in 60 hours may continue with the Challenge and will be recognised as Survivor if they complete Maclehose within 18 hours, the Hong Kong trail within 60 hours and all four trails within 75 hours and comply with the rules..
- Participants failing to complete Maclehose within 18 hours, the Hong Kong trail within 60 hours or all trails within 75 hours or found to violate (or their crews violate) any of the rules may continue on their own but will be removed from the tracking system, not be recognised in the Challenge, and listed as Retired without any further details..
- Nobody will be waiting at the Mui Wo green postbox after 75 hours, there will be no welcome reception and the tracking system will be switched off and the Challenge will end..
- Strictly solo and self-supported whilst on trail.
No pacers, outside companions, crews, mules, drop bags.
Crew support only allowed off-trails, e.g.
at trail head or trail finish and between the four trails.
Participants of the Challenge are permitted to run together but no outside companions are allowed..
- Must take MTR from Lam Tin to Tai Koo for Victoria Harbour crossing along Wilson trail..
- Must take ferry from Central (Hong Kong island) to Mui Wo (Lantau island) after Hong Kong trail and before Lantau trail..
.
The HK4TUC is a low key, extremely difficult event that requires a high level of hardship and endurance.
Self reliance and determination is the focus of the Challenge.
Participants will need to carry all gear, food, water etc.
and must therefore expect to carry a heavy pack..
.
This is only for people who love pain and suffering and get a thrill out of attempting something that they deem impossible and they expect most likely to completely fail at.
That's the reason why this Challenge was founded in 2012..
.
The core essence of the HK4TUC is about you and you alone in your battle with the trails over a very long, sustained period of time..
.
The individual courses follow exactly the original four Hong Kong long distance trails, as shown here http://hiking.gov.hk/eng/longtrail/longtrail.htm (the website includes detailed maps as well).
The Challenge follows the original trail courses and not any temporary diversions that may be established by authorities from time to time.
The trails have to be run in reverse from trail finish to trail start..
.
Course knowledge is advantageous and course recce is highly recommended but not mandatory.
GPS aid and maps are allowed to be used in the Challenge for now.
In particular you may wish to use the smartphone app “Enjoy Hiking” with trail maps and live identification of your location on the map as provided by the Hong Kong Government (see http://hiking.gov.hk/eng/index.htm), use at your own risk and discretion..
.
Given the distance and elevation change involved, this event is targeted at the experienced trail running enthusiast.
This is a very hard event and it challenges your strategy and self-pacing, and not necessarily just raw fitness..
.
The idea is for this to be a community-driven, non-commercial, no-frills challenge.
This is not a race, not a sporting competition, there are no prizes, no medals, no rankings, no UTMB points.
Just a bunch of like-minded ultra trail runners getting together to challenge themselves individually.
Just for the fun of it – because the trails are there..
.
There is no participation fee to join the challenge.
Fully self-supported event, i.e.
each participant carries with them all they need for each trail (food, clothes, headlamp, essential safety kit etc.).
Whilst on trails, no crewing, no pacing, no outside companion, no muling, no stashing permitted.
Since there are no rankings, relying on outside support only means cheating yourself.
Participants are allowed to buy water and food at publicly available shops or vending machines along the route.
Participants can run together if they wish..
.
You have to arrange your own transport to/from the trail start/finish locations and are encouraged to use public transport (taxi, train, Lantau ferry etc.) and cab-share.
However, private transport is also allowed..
.
Participants may need to pay for the cost of the mandatory live tracking to be provided for the event by a third party, further details yet to be worked out and announced later, will try to keep cost minimal, if any.
No fee to participate in the challenge itself..
.
Participation is strictly by invitation from the HK4TUC founder.
You are encouraged to express your interest by providing background on your relevant ultra trail experience and motivation as to why you want to join.
You then may or may not receive an invitation.
If you don’t receive an invitation there is no appeal but you are welcome to try again next year.
The list of participants will not be announced until the start of the Challenge..
.
